How to Choose Okra

Okra may be eaten raw or cooked, and it's a common ingredient in Creole cuisine.

Difficulty Level: Easy      Time Required: 1 minute

Here's How:
  1. Look for brightly colored pods.
  2. Pods should be no more than 4 inches long.
  3. Avoid dull, bruised, soft, or blemished pods.
  4. If okra is too ripe, it will have a very sticky texture.
Tips:
  1. Okra goes well with tomatoes, onions, peppers, corn, and eggplants.
  2. The viscous liquid cut okra gives off will thicken any liquid it's cooked in, making it a wonderful addition to stews and gumbos.
