  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 egg, well beaten

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
