PREPARATION:Cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp; transfer to paper towels to drain. Cook onion in drippings until softened. Stir in chicken broth, vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper. Add cabbage; reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add apples and cook for 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally. Combine cornstarch with water; stir into sauce. Cook, stirring, until thickened. Transfer to serving dish and garnish with crumbled bacon. Serves 4 to 6.
