This easy cinnamon French toast recipe cuts back on fat by using 2 whole eggs and 2 egg whites. While it's lighter in fat and calories, you won't notice any reduction in flavor. Small amounts of cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract add fabulous flavor to the dish.

Add a little cinnamon sugar to the French toast before drizzling with the syrup of your choice.

Ingredients

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk egg and egg white until foamy.

  3. Whisk in the milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  4. Heat a warming drawer or heat the oven to 200 F.

  5. Heat butter in a heavy skillet over medium-low heat. Dip 4 slices of bread in the egg mixture, turning to coat thoroughly. Let excess drip back into a bowl.

  6. Place coated bread slices in a hot skillet. Cook, turning with a spatula until both sides are nicely browned, about 2 minutes each side.

  7. Transfer to a warm plate and keep warm in the oven (or warming drawer). Repeat with remaining slices of bread and egg mixture.

  8. To serve, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar if desired.

  9. Serve with maple syrup, golden cane syrup, sorghum, or your favorite pancake syrup. Enjoy!

Tips

  • Soak bread for just a few seconds on each side. Push it down into the egg if necessary.
  • 3 large eggs with about 1/4 cup of milk will make enough egg mixture to soak 6 standard slices of bread.
  • French toast can be made ahead. Just cook the French toast and arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet. Place in the freezer for about 1 hour. Transfer the French toast to freezer bags and store them in the freezer for up to 1 month.
