Cook Time: 1 hour
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1/4 pound ground pork
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
- 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 3/4 cup half-and-half
Preparation:
Combine beaten egg, milk, and bread crumbs; let stand for 5 minutes. Sauté onions in 1 tablespoon butter until light golden in color. Combine bread crumb mixture, onions, ground beef and pork, salt, pepper, allspice and nutmeg. Mix with hands until smooth. Shape into about 36 meatballs about 1 inch in diameter. Brown meatballs in remaining 2 tablespoons butter. Pour off excess fat. Sprinkle meatballs with flour and shake the skillet. Add 1 cup hot water, stirring to loosen browned bits and blend well. Cover and simmer 35 to 40 minutes. Add half-and-half; heat through. Serve meatballs with the gravy and noodles.Serves 6.
