INGREDIENTS:
PREPARATION:Cream shortening and sugar together until light; add unbeaten egg and beat well. Mix baking soda with molasses; stir into creamed mixture. Sift dry ingredients together; add gradually to batter, stirring until just thoroughly blended. Add the hot water gradually, stirring until mixture is smooth. Don't over-beat. Pour into a greased 8- or 9-inch square pan and bake at 325° for 45 to 50 minutes. Serve gingerbread with a dollop of whipped topping or sweetened whipped cream. Makes about 1 dozen portions.
