INGREDIENTS:
PREPARATION:In saucepan over low heat or in a double boiler over boiling water, melt chocolate chips with sweetened condensed milk, 1 tablespoon of butter, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Blend well; set aside.
Sift together the flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt. In a mixing bowl, cream 1/2 cup butter and 1 cup brown sugar. Beat in egg and remaining 1 teaspoon vanilla. Stir in sifted dry ingredients and the oats. Press about 2/3 of the mixture in a 9-inch square baking pan. Spread with chocolate mixture. Crumble remaining mixture over chocolate filling; sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup chopped nuts. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool and cut into bars.
