Down-Home Southern Recipes Elvis Would Have Enjoyed
Elvis Aron Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in a small house in Tupelo, Mississippi. He eventually captured the hearts and souls of millions worldwide through his music and personality. August 16 is the anniversary of his death in 1977, and thousands of fans will journey to Memphis, Tennessee to view his Graceland home and participate in planned events. Many will go on to visit his birthplace in Tupelo, about 90 miles away.
Serve this wonderful Southern-style gravy over hot split and buttered buttermilk biscuits. Biscuits with gravy make a great breakfast with fresh or spiced fruit, or serve along with a complete breakfast.
This is one of my favorite recipes for skillet cornbread, Southern-style. It's perfect bread to serve with chili, pinto beans, soups, greens, and other delicious Southern meals.
This is a flavorful sauce, on the sweet side. Add the lower amounts of sugar and molasses if you like your sauce a little less sweet. You can always add more while you're simmering the sauce.
Pinto beans are cooked then baked with ham, onions, green peppers, and a homemade barbecue sauce. Serve these pinto beans with hot baked cornbread and a tossed salad.
