Soul Food Desserts from Family and Friends by Joyce White
Just in time for Black History Month comes this wonderful cookbook, "Brown Sugar." From the author of "Soul Food," "Brown Sugar" is filled with tempting soul food dessert recipes. Gathered from friends and family, these tempting desserts are spiced with interesting anecdotes and warm memories. I think most of us have made something that is requested again and again. Well, this cookbook is filled with these recipes. Each recipe starts with a story about its origin and how it became an all-time favorite. The compilation is sure to be one of the best dessert cookbooks you'll find.
The recipes are generally uncomplicated, and many should be easy enough for a novice in the kitchen. White includes very good instructions with each recipe, and she uses sidebars and blocks throughout the book for general tips and cooking advice. She takes the time to explain how important it is to keep egg whites completely yolk-free, a small tidbit of information that could mean the difference between success and failure for many home cooks.
