Cook Time: 60 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 cups corn oil
- 3 eggs
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 3 cups unsifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 5 cups diced peeled apples
- 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
- icing - see directions
Preparation:
Cream together sugar and corn oil. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then beat in vanilla. set aside.
Sift together flour, soda, salt, cloves, and cinnamon. Stir apples and walnuts to sifted dry ingredients. Add all dry ingredients to creamed mixture. It will be difficult to stir and the end result will be a stiff dough. Bake in greased and floured 9x13x2 baking pan at 325° for 55-60 minutes. Mix 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar with about 1/4 cup milk. Add more to make icing consistency to "drizzle." Spread over "still very warm" cake. It is so delicious...wonderful for after dinner or as a morning cake with coffee.
