Apple Mincemeat Dessert With Dates and Nuts

Use pecans or walnuts in this apple mincemeat crisp recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 1 cup prepared mincemeat
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1/2 cup chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup cranberry juice , or cran-apple
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature

Preparation:

Spread half of the apple slices in a buttered 9-inch square baking dish. Combine mincemeat, chopped nuts, dates, and chocolate chips. Spread mixture over apples then top with the remaining apples and pour cranberry juice over all.

In a bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and butter, mixing with fingertips until crumbly. Sprinkle over mixture in baking pan. Bake at 350° for 55 to 60 minutes, or until apples are tender. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
Serves 6.
