Apple Oat Crisp
Serve this apple crisp with ice cream or whipped topping for an extra special dessert.

Ingredients:

  • 6 medium tart apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup quick cooking oats
  • 6 tablespoons melted butter
  • whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Preparation:

Toss the apple slices with the lemon juice, the brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, and spices; arrange in a buttered 8-inch square baking dish.

In a bowl, combine the granulated sugar, 1/2 cup flour, and oats; stir in melted butter. Spread mixture over the apples. Pour water evenly over top. Bake in a 375° oven for 30 minutes, until apples are tender and top is nicely browned. Serve warm or cooled with ice cream or whipped cream.
Serves 4.

Good basic recipe but have to add flavoring, Member applesathome

I used this recipe with some green apples from my backyard and it was delicious. I had to add 1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice, juice from 1 lemon, and substituted quick oats for old fashion (large) oats. Instead of placing the crisp mixture on top of the apples I mixed everything together, it tasted so good alone, almost like a big cookie.
