2 large apples

Steps to Make It

Gather the ingredients. Heat oil to 370 F.

Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

In another bowl, whisk the egg with the milk; add to flour mixture and beat until smooth.

Add the melted shortening or butter and mix well.

Peel and core the apples; cut into 8 wedges.

Dip apple wedges into the batter, let excess drip off, and carefully lower into the hot oil.
