This is a moist, buttery banana bread loaded with banana flavor. Here's a large photo of this banana bread recipe.

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 4 cups flour
  • 6 large bananas, very ripe, mashed
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans


Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Sift dry ingredients together; add to creamed mixture. Stir in bananas and chopped pecans.

Pour banana nut bread batter into 2 well-greased loaf pans; bake at 325° for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. This banana nut bread recipe makes 2 loaves.

The Perfect Banana Nut Bread for the novice baker, Member mswrwright

I'm not a baker...it takes too much time an too much attention...but this banana nut bread has found its way into my kitchen. My neighbor somehow got his hands on a whole lot of bananas and was giving them away. I had to do something with them so after searching, I decided on this recipe, it was awesome (notice I said was). I added the cinnamon, vanilla and brown sugar as suggested (I didn't have any allspice) and used cake flour instead. Next time I will decrease the sugar but I wouldn't change anything else. I definitely will be baking this one again...in fact this weekend.
