By Diana Rattray, About.com

A recipe for a steak and onion pie made with round steak and potatoes and onions.

Ingredients:

  • pasty for 1-crust pie
  • 1 cup sliced onion
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 pound round steak, cut in small cubes
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • dash ginger
  • dash allspice
  • 2 1/2 cups boiling beef broth or bouillon
  • 2 cups diced raw potatoes

Preparation:

Cook onions in shortening until lightly browned; remove and set aside. Dredge meat in flour mixed with salt, pepper, paprika, ginger and allspice. Brown in the hot shortening. Add boiling beef broth, cover and simmer for about 1 hour, or until meat is tender. Add potatoes and cook for 10 minutes longer. Pour mixture into an 8-inch greased casserole; arrange onions on top. Cover with pie pastry; crimp edges and cut slits for steam. Bake at 400° for 30 to 40 minutes.
