I made a half recipe of the dumplings, adding a shake of nutmeg, and put them on a half-kettle of chicken soup. They came out, as my great-grandmother (1861-1962) would have said, ""Light as a fither."" She was Irish-American and a cook for the big houses in LaCrosse and on Summit Hill in St. Paul.
