Honey Buttermilk Bread

Honey and buttermilk give this yeast bread great flavor and texture.


  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 3 teaspoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 cup water


Put all ingredients in bread machine, in order suggested by bread machine manufacturer. Choose basic or white bread and light or medium crust setting.

For Rolls: Use the dough cycle, then knead again, adding some flour if the dough is sticky. Shape into rolls and allow to rise until doubled in bulk. Bake at 375° until lightly browned. You can use an egg wash and sprinkle with seeds of your choice; poppy, sesame, or caraway.

honey buttermilk rolls, Member countybaker

I did these on the dough setting. I could tell as soon as I touched the risen dough that I had hit on a great recipe. They needed a bit of flour for shaping but stayed elastic and tender. They rose perfectly, I baked them as rolls and by husband and I could easily have devoured them all. I have been baking for a long time and these are some of the best! I do think it is important to use BREAD FLOUR and not regular flour.The gluten is higher, the result is more tender and predictable.ALso, always be sure your yeast is fresh. This ones is a keeper! Highly recommended.
