Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups thinly sliced apples
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts, divided
- 2 1/2 cups milk, warmed
- 2 cups soft French or Italian bread cubes
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- dash salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1/2 cup raisins
- cream or dessert sauce
Preparation:
Combine apples, brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 cup of the chopped pecans. Put apple and nut mixture into a lightly buttered 2-quart baking dish. Mix milk and bread cubes. Mix together the remaining nuts, molasses, granulated sugar, salt, vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and eggs; combine with bread crumb mixture then stir in raisins. Pour mixture over apples. Set baking dish in a larger pan with about 1/2-inch of hot water. Bake at 350° for about 50 minutes, or until set and firm. A knife inserted near center should come out clean.
