Ingredients:
- 3 large eggs
- 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate (2 squares)
- 3 cups milk
- 4 cups soft bread cubes
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- dash salt
Preparation:
Whisk eggs in a medium bowl until well blended; set aside.
Combine chocolate and milk in a heavy saucepan. Heat over low heat, stirring, until chocolate is melted and mixture is well blended. Add bread, sugar, and salt. Slowly stir mixture into the beaten eggs. Place 4 to 6 small custard cups or ramekins in a large baking dish. Pour bread pudding mixture into the ramekins. Set the pan with filled ramekins on oven rack. Add about 1 inch of very hot water to the large baking pan. Bake at 350° for about 45 to 55 minutes, or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean.
Serve chocolate bread pudding warm with a fresh strawberry sauce (as shown), whipped cream or ice cream.
