This old fashioned porridge is made with steel cut oats. Add your favorite sweetener and some fresh berries or fruit to this simple porridge, and enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup Scotch oats (steel-cut)
  • milk
  • sugar, honey, or syrup, as desired
  • berries, fruit slices, or raisins, optional

Preparation:

Bring water and salt to a boil. Sprinkle with oats, stirring constantly. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Great basic recipe for porridge, Member gourmetwannabe

I like to use less water -- two cups instead of two and a half cups -- and reduce the cooking time to 20 minutes. This gives it a litlle more tecture, which is more to my liking. But, that's just me...
