Saucepan Brownies


These brownies are mixed on the stovetop then baked in the oven.

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes


  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 2 squares (2 ounces) unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts


In a saucepan over low heat, melt shortening and chocolate, stirring constantly; cool. Beat in vanilla and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Sift flour and salt together; add to saucepan mixture. Stir in chopped walnuts and blend well. Spoon into a greased and floured 8-inch square pan.
Bake at 325° for about 25 minutes.
