Semisweet Brownies Recipe

Semisweet Brownies

Diana Rattray

These brownies are a double semisweet treat made with melted semisweet chocolate and semisweet chocolate chips. I didn't add nuts to these brownies but you could add 1/2 cup of chopped nuts to the batter.

This is quite and easy recipe to whip up for a weekend treat or guests.

Large Picture of Semisweet Brownies

  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate
  • 1 stick (4 ounces) unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 to 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Heat oven to 350°. Grease and flour a 9-inch baking pan.

Melt chocolate with butter in a double boiler over simmering water until smooth, stirring frequently.

In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the sugar with eggs and salt until thick. Stir in vanilla and flour.

Stir in the chocolate and butter mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.

Spread in prepared pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with just a small amount clinging.

These brownies were very easy to make. I doubled the recipe and made them in a 9x13 pan. They came out thick, high and moist. Baked them for about 30 minutes. Reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because I prefer a darker, richer brownie. They were very good, but still I would like to find a recipe using unsweetened chocolate because I think it would have that deeper chocolately taste. I would take them to a party or serve to guests and I'm sure everyone would like them. I added the extra chocolate morsels at the end and only used a cup and a half to the doubled recipe. Maybe 2 cups would have been better as the recipe suggested.
