These are the blonde brownies my mother made for us, and they are still a family favorite.

Prep Time: 8 minutes

Cook Time: 23 minutes

Total Time: 31 minutes

  • 1 stick butter or margarine (4 ounces), room temperature
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • pinch salt
  • 1/2 to 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup (about 8 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

Cream together the butter and brown sugar; beat in egg. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips. Spread batter in a greased and floured 7- X 11-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. These brown very quickly, so be sure to start checking at the 20 minute mark.

This is by far the best blondie/blonde brownie recipe, and I've tried a lot of them. I bake these on a regular basis without using walnuts, just chocolate chips, and usually double the recipe. For the reviewers who thought they were ""plain"" and got stale the following day, do not bake over 20/25 minutes as stated and keep them refrigerated in a tight container, this way I can guarantee they are as mouth-melting and delicious as on the 1st day even 2 weeks later. Thanks for a wonderful recipe!
