- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- 1 cup chocolate or butterscotch chips, or 1/2 cup each flavor
