Dream Bars Recipe with Coconut and Pecans

These toffee and coconut bars -- also known as dream bars -- are made with a brown sugar shortbread crust and delicious coconut and pecan filling.  


  • Crust:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup flour
  • .
  • Filling:
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts


Heat the oven to 350° F.

Combine crust ingredients; press into a 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, make filling. Beat the eggs with 1 cup brown sugar, vanilla, 2 tablespoons flour, and baking powder until smooth.  Stir in coconut and nuts.

Spread the filling over the crust and bake for 20 minutes longer.
