By Diana Rattray, About.com

Salisbury steaks, made with lean ground beef and a tangy sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground round or chuck
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions, about 1-inch lengths
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons steak sauce
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard, regular or bold and spicy
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Preparation:

Shape ground beef into 4 oval steaks. Heat butter in a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add Salisbury steaks and brown quickly on both sides. Reduce heat to medium-low and continue cooking until cooked through. Remove steaks to a platter and keep warm. Add onions to the pan drippings; sauté onions until tender. Add water, brown sugar, steak sauce, mustard and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Spoon over steaks. Serve with your favorite vegetable side dish or serve on buttered toasted French bread.
