Butter Sand Tarts with Vanilla

These sand tarts are made with butter and vanilla - also links to shortbread cookies and sand tarts with cinnamon.

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes


  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring


Melt butter and brown slightly. Stir until cooled. Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Chill. Roll dough out on floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with 1-inch cookie cutters. Bake on lightly greased baking sheet at 400° for about 10 minutes. If desired sprinkle warm cookies with sifted confectioners' sugar.

Excellent Sand Cookie Recipe, Member pauport

Excellent cookie recipe. I have childhood memories of this cookie and this recipe is what I remember sand tarts tasting like. I was so happy to find this recipe was as I remembered the cookie to taste.
