Easy party rye spreads - half with red peppers and walnuts and the other half with purchased or homemade pesto.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup Miracle Whip Salad Dressing
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted*
  • Few drops hot pepper sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup purchased or homemade pesto, chilled
  • 36 party rye bread slices
  • 1 can ( 4 ounces) chopped pitted ripe olives, drained

Preparation:

Mix together cream cheese and salad dressing until well blended; divide mixture in half. Stir red peppers, walnuts, hot pepper sauce and garlic powder into one half cream cheese mixture until well blended. Stir pesto into remaining cream cheese mixture. For each appetizer, spread 1 teaspoon red pepper spread diagonally on one half of one bread slice; spread 1 teaspoon pesto spread on remaining half. Sprinkle olives diagonally down center of bread to separate spreads. Repeat with remaining bread slices, spreads and olives.
3 dozen.

*To toast nuts, spread out in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast in a 350° oven, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 15 minutes. Or, toast in an ungreased skillet over medium heat, stirring, until golden brown and aromatic.
