Creamy Basil Chicken Breasts

The flavors of garlic and basil stand out in this easy, tasty chicken recipe. Serve this skillet chicken with rice or pasta and a tossed salad for a delicious family meal.


  • 4 to 6 boneless chicken breast halves, without skin
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried leaf basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 to 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese


Wash chicken breasts and pat dry. Put the chicken breasts between sheets of plastic wrap and gently flatten to an even thickness. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Coat the chicken breasts with flour. Heat oil and butter in a large skillet. Add chicken breasts and brown for about 3 minutes on each side. Add the basil, parsley, garlic, and chicken broth; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 3 minutes. Cover and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes longer, or until chicken breasts are cooked through (the chicken breasts will cook more quickly if they are very thin). Stir in the cream and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Serves 4 to 6.
