Vera's Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

• 3/4 cup hot coffee
• 1/2 cup cocoa
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 cups sour cream
• 2 cups cake flour
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• pinch of salt
• 3 egg whites, beaten
• 2 cups sugar
• --
• FROSTING
• 1/4 cup cocoa
• 1/4 cup hot coffee
• 1/4 cup melted butter
• 2 cups confectioners' sugar

Preparation:

Mix coffee and cocoa and let cool. Cream butter and sugar until light. Add vanilla and cocoa mixture. Add the soda mixed with the sour cream. Sift flour four times with the salt. Add flour and salt mixture a little at a time to butter mixture.

In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until thick; add second cup of sugar slowly and continue beating, then add to the cake mixture. Bake in three layers at 350° for 25 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick or cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake thoroughly.

For frosting, dissolve cocoa in coffee, allow to cool, then stir in melted butter. Beat mixture with confectioners' sugar until smooth and creamy.
