Cook Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup butter
- 2 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 3 eggs
- 3 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 3 cups cake flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons soda
- 3/4 teaspoon soda
- 1 1/2 cups ice water
Preparation:
Cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs, beating well after each addition. Add melted chocolate; blend well. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with the ice water. Pour into three 9-inch layer cake pans. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool 5 to 10 minutes and remove from pans. Cool thoroughly before frosting.Chocolate Frosting
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 8 cups sifted confectioners sugar (about 2 pounds - sift before measuring)
- 1/4 cup half and half cream
- 2 egg whites (use Just Whites or other egg white substitute)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 4 ounces melted chocolate
