Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cups boiling water
- 8 ounces chopped pitted dates
- 1 package (2-layer size) chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Preparation:
Pour boiling water over dates; set aside and let cool. When date mixture is cooled, prepare cake mix batter according to package directions, using the date and water mixture instead of water called for on package. Pour the batter into a generously greased and floured 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips and chopped pecans evenly over top of batter. Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.
