If you're making this cake for kids, call it a "Better Than Anything Cake!" Another name for the cake, Robert Redford Cake, probably dates back to the 1970s. Whatever you want to call it, this cake involves chocolate and all kinds of other sweet indulgences that may help explain its name (with apologies, perhaps, to the actor Robert Redford).

This is a popular, irresistible chocolate cake dessert with loads of chocolate, caramel topping, candy bars, and whipped topping. It just requires a 9 x 13-inch pan, which already tells you that this is an easy recipe that isn't terribly fussy. Use your favorite chocolate cake recipe or bake a cake with a cake mix for this scrumptious dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 chocolate cake (baked in a 9 x 13-inch baking pan)

  • 3/4 cup fudge topping, slightly warmed

  • 3/4 cup caramel topping, or butterscotch topping, slightly warmed

  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 6 chocolate-covered toffee bars, such as Heath bars, divided; or 1 1/3 cups toffee and chocolate chips

  • 1 (8-ounce) tub frozen whipped topping, thawed

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Bake the cake and leave it in the pan to cool slightly.

  4. One at a time, pour the fudge and caramel or butterscotch toppings and condensed milk over the top of the cake, letting each flavor soak in before adding the next.

Tips

  • This cake is a great way to use up any fun-sized toffee candy bars, should you have them after a party or Halloween.
  • Toffee works well because it offers some crunch.
  • You can vary the flavors by using other types of small candy bars. Try Butterfingers with butterscotch sauce or Snickers or Milky Way bars with fudge sauce.

How to Store and Freeze Better Than Sex Cake

This cake is best stored, covered, in the refrigerator. It's very moist, thanks to the addition of the various sauces and should keep for up to five days.

You can wrap this cake and freeze it for up to three months. Wrapping it in individual slices or in portions that you can easily serve makes good sense; this way you only defrost what you need. Thaw in the refrigerator.
