Christmas Tree Cookies

Christmas tree cookie recipe for Christmas parties and gatherings.

  • 1 package refrigerated sugar cookies, 18 ounces
  • 1 cup creamy vanilla frosting, canned or homemade
  • green food color
  • colored decorator's icing
  • assorted candy decorations, such as cinnamon red hots, candy coated chocolate or peanut butter pieces, etc.

Line 2 large baking sheets with foil, regular or nonstick. Remove half of cookie dough from the package; refrigerate remaining dough. Cut dough into 16 slices. Roll 15 of the slices into balls.

Arrange cookie dough balls in a triangle shape on the baking sheet, placing balls about 1/4-inch apart in rows of 5,4,3,2, and 1. Shape the last slice into a rectangular shape, to use for the trunk of the tree.

Bake in a preheated 350° oven for about 10 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned. Cool completely, then repeat for the second tree.

When trees are baked then cooled, peel foil from backs and place on large trays. Combine frosting and food coloring in a small bowl; blend well. Frost cookies. Decorate with colored icing and use candies to make ornaments.
