By Diana Rattray, About.com

Ambrosia, a delightful cookbook from the Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg Mississippi, takes us on a full-color recipe and seasonal photo tour of the foods and history of the Deep South.

About the Cookbook

Beginning with an introduction from Mississippi's First Lady, Patricia Owens Fordice, you'll find every season and event spiced with a little history, personal recollections, and anecdotes. The book is divided into four seasonal sections with 25 occasions and events in all, each with accompanying menus and recipes shown in settings of beautiful Vicksburg homes and historical buildings.

Recipe Examples

Awarded the Tabasco® Community Cookbook Award in 1997, you'll find wonderful traditional Southern favorites like Black-Eyed Pea Cornbread and Fried Oysters and Grits, and elegant fare for special occasions, such as the impressive Fabergé Egg Cake and Chicken En Croute.
