Macaroons With Almonds

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup slivered blanched almonds

PREPARATION:

Beat egg whites until stiff. Add sugar gradually, while continuing to beat, until sugar is incorporated and dissolved. Add lemon juice and almond extract then fold in almonds. Line a baking sheet with foil. Drop meringue mixture by teaspoonfuls onto foil. Bake at 350° for about 12 minute, until lightly browned.
Makes about 36.
