Spicy Italian Roast

This tasty roast is made with a rump roast, but feel free to use a chuck arm, bottom round, or other cut best for for slow cooker. Often you'll find the roast labeled as an "oven roast" or "pot roast." Serve this flavorful pot roast with noodles or roasted potatoes.

Ingredients:

  • 3 to 4 lb. beef rump roast
  • 1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms
  • 1 (1 1/2 oz.) pkg. spaghetti sauce seasoning mix
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 diced onion
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

Preparation:

Season roast with garlic powder and salt and pepper. Place in Crock Pot or slow cooker. Add mushrooms (drained) and onion. Combine seasoning mix and the tomato sauce. Pour over all. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours or on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours. To thicken gravy, make a paste of 2 tablespoons melted butter and 2 tablespoons flour; mix until smooth. Add 2 tablespoons tomato paste. Stir into meat drippings in bottom of Crock Pot. Cover and cook on high for about 30 minutes or until the juices are thickened.
