Easy Chocolate Cupcakes

Cream shortening and sugar until light; beat in egg and vanilla. Sift together the dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture, alternating with milk and hot water. Beat on medium speed for 3 minutes. Fill greased and floured or paper-lined muffin tins about 1/2 full. Bake at 375° for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until a wooden pick or cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.
Makes about 18 cupcakes.
