Date Bread - Whole Wheat

This date bread makes 2 loaves. A dark date bread recipe from Jaclyn.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup rye flour
  • 2 cups white flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups chopped dates
  • 1 cup chopped pecans, optional
  • 3 cups buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease two 8 1/2x4 1/2-inch loaf pans. In large bowl sift together dry ingredients. Beat in dates, nuts if using, buttermilk, and butter. Pour into 2 greased 8-inch loaf pans and let stand, covered, in warm place for 20 minutes. Bake 50 to 60 minutes, or until a wooden pick or cake tester inserted in center comes out clean..
Makes 2 loaves of date bread.
