Pain Perdu (Lost Bread)

Recipe for pain perdu (lost bread), a Cajun French toast recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Preparation:

Beat together egg and sugar; add milk and nutmeg. Dip slices of bread in the egg mixture then fry in hot butter until browned on each side. Dust with powdered sugar or serve with syrup.
