Ground Beef and Black Bean Chili

Diana Rattray
Serve this hearty ground beef and black bean chili with cornbread or corn waffles (pictured). This is a great everyday family meal your family will ask for again and again.

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground sirloin or extra lean ground beef
  • 1 large sweet onion, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small can (4 ounces) chopped mild green chile peppers
  • 2 cans (14.5 ounces each) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ancho chile powder or more chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon leaf oregano
  • dash chipotle chile powder, optional
  • 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, rinsed and drained
  • salt and pepper, to taste

In a large deep skillet or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef; add onion and bell pepper and saute until onion is tender. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer over low heat for about 1 to 2 hours, or transfer to the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours.
Serve with cornbread or Savory Corn Waffles (pictured).
Serves 6 to 8.

Ground Beef and Black Bean Chili, Member misamba

I used this as a base recipe. I also added, chopped hatch chills, 1 tbsp. cocoa powder, 1 tbsp Knorr Beef flavored bouillon. You can get Knorr chicken and beef powdered boullion base in the Mexican section at Walmart cheap! I use it all the time.
