  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3 ounces (3 squares) unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • dash of salt
  • 3 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/3 cup half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

My husband wanted a chocolate cream cheese frosting for my homemade deep dark chocolate cake. I ran across this one and with out reading any of the reviews made it. The key to keeping this frosting ""stiff"" is putting in the fridge. It had cream cheese in it. I made the frosting as directed and put it in the fridge to set up before spreading it on the cake. Perfection! It has the great cream cheese flavor we were seeking and the richness of the chocolate to go with the cake. The cake will remain in the fridge because the frosting MUST be chilled to remain the right stiffness.
