Homemade Spicy Seasoning Salt

Terri Pischoff Wuerthner
This is a quick-to-make seasoning salt when you want to add a spicy flavor to food. It's so much less expensive than purchasing a spice blend.

Much like Cajun or Creole spice mixes found in stores, this is worth keeping on hand to sprinkle on meat, poultry, fish or vegetables. I even sprinkle it on cream cheese and serve it with crackers for a quick hors d'oeuvre.

Yield: Makes About 1 1/2 - 2 Cups

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons white pepper
  • 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper

Preparation:

Mix ingredients together well, and store in an airtight container, or zip-style bag for up to six months. Best stored in a cool, dark place.
