How Much to Buy: Chicken

How Much Chicken to Buy, Boneless or Bone-In

It's easy to cook too much or too little, especially if you're cooking for more or fewer people than usual.

Boneless chicken breasts: For each person, count on having about 4 to 5 ounces of cooked chicken, and allow an extra ounce for shrinkage. For each person, you should buy 5 to 6 ounces, or 20 to 24 ounces for 4 people.

Bone-in chicken: Buy about 8 ounces per person, which should leave 4 to 5 ounces of meat per serving. For 4 people, purchase about 32 ounces of chicken.
