Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Grape jelly is the secret ingredient in this recipe for meatballs.

Total Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork, optional
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 (12-ounce) bottles chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 jar (10-ounce) grape jelly
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • hot cooked rice or noodles

Preparation:

Combine bread crumbs, milk, chopped onion, ground beef and pork, egg, salt, and pepper. Shape into 1-inch balls. In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, combine chili sauce, water, and grape jelly. Add meatballs and simmer gently for 1 hour. Just before serving, stir in sour cream. Serve sweet and sour meatballs over hot rice or noodles.
