Cook Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1-3 teaspoons whiskey, or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 1/4 cup flour
Preparation:
Combine shortening, brown sugar, molasses, water and spices bring to a boil. Remove from heat; set aside to cool. Cover and leave mixture at room temperature 8 hours. Combine flour, salt, soda, stir flour mixture into syrup mixture. Chill several hours. Divide dough into 4 portions. Work with 1 portion at a time, leave the rest refrigerated. Place dough on a lightly floured cookie sheet, roll to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with floured cutters, leaving about 1 1/2 inches between cookies. Remove excess dough.
