Molasses Jumbles

Old fashioned molasses jumbles recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (sift before measuring)
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Preparation:

Cream shortening and sugar; beat in egg. Sift together the flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, and ginger. Combine the molasses and buttermilk in a cup or small bowl. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk mixture to creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
Bake Molasses Cookies at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
Makes 3 ro 4 dozen molasses cookies, depending on size.
