PREPARATION:In a saucepan combine cornstarch, brown sugar, and cold water; add peaches and blueberries. Coo, stirring, until mixture thickens. Add 1 tablespoon butter and the lemon juice. Pour fruit mixture into a buttered 8-inch round baking dish.
Sift together the flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add milk, butter, and flavoring; beat until batter is smooth. Spread batter over fruit mixture. Sprinkle batter evenly with sugar and nutmeg or cinnamon mixture. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes, or until nicely browned and fruit is bubbly. Serve warm with cream or ice cream. Serves 6.
