Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons very cold water

Preparation:

Combine flour and salt; cut shortening in until mixture looks like coarse meal. Add cold water until dough no longer clings to sides of bowl. Roll out on a lightly floured surface about 1/8-inch thickness. Fit loosely into a 9-inch pie plate. Trim to about 1/2-inch beyond edge of pie plate; fold under and flute edge all around. Prick bottom and sides all over. Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes.
