Use your favorite pizza crust recipe to make a deep dish or thin crust pizza with a tasty topping of leftover pulled pork and barbecue sauce.

  • Sauce:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons finely minced onion
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed, light or dark
  • dash salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • dash cayenne pepper
  • Toppings:
  • thinly sliced plum tomatoes
  • 1 cup chopped leftover pulled pork
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced peppers
  • sliced black olives or jalapeno peppers, optional
  • 4 ounces shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 to 4 ounces shredded mild Cheddar or a combination of Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses

In a saucepan over medium heat, saute onion in olive oil until tender. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute longer. Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, salt, and black and cayenne peppers. Bring to a simmer; reduce heat to low and cook, stirring frequently, until thickened.

Meanwhile, prepare the pizza crust by hand or in the bread machine. Fit the crust in a regular or deep dish pizza pan.

Spread about 1/2 cup of the sauce over the crust. Top with the pulled pork, tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, and other toppings. Sprinkle the cheeses over all.

Bake pizza at 425° for about 20 minutes or until crust is lightly browned, or follow the directions for your particular pizza crust recipe and method. Makes a 12- to 14-inch pizza.
